Alison Schefer

Alison Schefer attended Stetson University in DeLand Florida where she obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance in 1984. She then went on to receive her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1986.

Ms. Schefer has limited her practice for the last 29 years to the defense of Florida Workers’ Compensation claims. She has successfully represented both public and private sector employers in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties. Ms. Schefer has particular experience in the defense of heart and lung presumption claims, exposure cases, permanent total disability cases and catastrophic claims.

Ms. Schefer has lectured at numerous conferences including the Florida Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference, The Association of Claims Professionals’ Conference, and at the Florida Prima Conference on topics such as death benefits, compensability, ethics, apportionment, exposure claims, permanent total disability claims, attorneys’ fees and mediation strategies. In December, 2002 Ms. Schefer was honored to be named the Treasure Coast’s Outstanding Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney. Ms. Schefer is a past Co-Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Committee of the Florida Defense Lawyers’ Association. In 2007, Ms. Schefer received the Kenny Edwards’ Award for Excellence in Advocacy and Ethics. She has served as a guest faculty member for the Florida Bar’s Trial Advocacy Seminar. Ms. Schefer was elected to serve as a member of the Florida Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Counsel from 2011 to 2015. Ms. Schefer is currently the President of the Judge Robert D. McAliley American Inn of Court.
